FAQ
Is PlasmidStudio free?
Yes, PlasmidStudio is free during the beta period. We haven't announced post-beta pricing yet.
Is my sequence data private?
Your construct data is stored encrypted in a managed PostgreSQL database. AI design requests are routed through our server-side proxy and are not retained beyond the request. Our AI providers do not use API inputs/outputs to train models per their API terms. See our Security page for full details.
Can I use my own AI API key?
Yes. Go to the AI settings in the chat panel and configure your own API key. Your key is encrypted server-side with AES-256-GCM and never exposed in the browser.
What organisms are supported?
PlasmidStudio supports expression system context for: E. coli, HEK293, CHO, Yeast (S. cerevisiae), Insect (Sf9), and In Vitro. The AI can design constructs for any organism, but Design Health checks are most comprehensive for these systems.
Can I share constructs with collaborators?
Yes. Click the Share button in the sidebar to create a view-only share link. Recipients can view the plasmid map, feature annotations, and sequence without a PlasmidStudio account. Links can be set to expire after 7 days, 30 days, or never.
How do I report a bug or request a feature?
Click the Feedback button in the sidebar, or use the chat on this site. You can report bugs, request features, or send general feedback. Include a screenshot if possible — the feedback widget has a built-in capture tool.
Can I import from Addgene?
Yes. In the Import modal, select the "Search Addgene" tab and search by keyword or plasmid ID. Browse 170,000+ plasmids with filter pills for popular categories. Preview the construct details, then import with one click.
Does PlasmidStudio work offline?
No. PlasmidStudio requires an internet connection for AI processing, data storage, and authentication. Your constructs are saved to the cloud, so they're accessible from any browser.
