GenBank
The universal exchange format for annotated sequences. Import .gb, .gbk, or .genbank files — PlasmidStudio parses all standard feature annotations, qualifiers, and sequence data.
Export generates standard GenBank format compatible with all major tools (SnapGene, Benchling, NCBI, etc.).
SnapGene (.dna)
Import and export in SnapGene's binary .dna format. Compatible with both SnapGene (full version) and SnapGene Viewer (free).
Note: Some PlasmidStudio feature types (MCS, tag, misc) may display differently in SnapGene due to mapping differences.
FASTA
Import plain sequences with optional FASTA headers. When a FASTA file is imported, PlasmidStudio's AI automatically annotates detected features (promoters, coding sequences, origins, resistance genes, etc.). Annotations appear as pending suggestions that you can accept or dismiss.
Export produces standard FASTA format with the construct name as the header.
SBOL v3
Export constructs as SBOL v3 RDF/XML for interoperability with SynBioHub and computational design tools. Feature types are mapped to Sequence Ontology (SO) terms. Features that can't be precisely mapped (MCS, misc) are exported as generic components.
Synthesis export
Export formatted for gene synthesis ordering from IDT, Twist Bioscience, or GenScript. The wizard includes: - Synthesis feasibility pre-check (length, GC content, homopolymers, repeats) - Provider-specific size limits (IDT ≤3kb, Twist ≤5kb, GenScript ≤12kb) - OSTP nucleic acid screening compliance notice - Circular topology handling (linearized for synthesis with circularization note)
