Getting Started

Welcome to PlasmidStudio

PlasmidStudio is an AI-powered plasmid design tool. You design constructs by describing what you need in plain English — the AI generates annotated, validated plasmid maps in seconds.

The interface has three panels: a sidebar (constructs and history), a chat panel (AI conversation), and a viewer (plasmid map, features, sequence, and analysis tools).

Signing in

PlasmidStudio uses magic link authentication. Enter your email address, click the link in the email you receive, and you're signed in. No password needed.

If you're not in the beta yet, join the waitlist at the landing page. You'll receive an invite email when your access is ready.

Starting your first construct

There are three ways to start:

From a template: Click "Browse Templates" and choose from 20 curated backbones across categories: Mammalian, Bacterial, CRISPR, Viral, Yeast, and Gateway. Templates come pre-loaded with features and expression system settings.

From a chat prompt: Type what you need in the chat panel. Examples: - "Design a mammalian expression vector for GFP with a CMV promoter" - "Create a bacterial expression plasmid for His-tagged protein purification" - "Build a CRISPR construct targeting BRCA1"

From a file: Click "Import" in the sidebar and upload a GenBank (.gb, .gbk), FASTA (.fasta, .fa), or SnapGene (.dna) file. FASTA files are automatically annotated by AI.

Iterating with the AI

After your initial construct is loaded, modify it through conversation: - "Add a His-tag to the C-terminus" - "Switch the resistance to ampicillin" - "Optimize codons for E. coli" - "What restriction sites are available for subcloning?"

Each change updates the plasmid map in real time. Use Ctrl+Z to undo any change.

Saving and managing constructs

Constructs auto-save to the cloud as you work. The sidebar shows all your saved constructs with: - Mini SVG thumbnail - Size (bp), feature count - Expression system badge - Relative timestamp

Click any construct to open it. Hover and click the delete icon for two-step deletion. Click "New Construct" to start fresh.
